概要
The Faculty of Environmental and Symbiotic Sciences offers Basic English I (BE I) to its first-year students. BE I will focus on building students' communication skills, including learning basic vocabulary, speaking and listening, but also reading and writing. Class time will be student-centered, and students will be expected to use English in the classroom. Homework will include preparation for class time and activities to enhance students' personal learning.
到達目標
Basic English I (BE I) builds on first-year students' high school English abilities. BE I will help students improve their vocabulary, especially the most frequent words they will meet in English. Students will communicate in English with their classmates and teachers. Students will also have opportunities to improve their reading and writing skills. Students completing BE I will have the ability to communicate with anyone about simple personal topics in English.
履修上の注意
Students are responsible for coming to class on time, participating in class activities with the teacher and other students, and completing assignments independently. Students must come to class on time, speak English, complete all homework assignments, and participate actively in class. English Central will be an important component of this class and will be completed both in class and at home.

予習・復習
について
Students will be told about the upcoming topic of next class at the end of each class. The students will discuss the upcoming topic in pairs, while taking notes of what their partner said. Frequent quizzes will ensure that material has been understood. The next class will begin with a review of the previous lesson and include an introduction of the topic of the day.

参考文献
An English-Japanese/Japanese-English dictionary and an English-English dictionary either in book or electronic form; and an adequate number of writing implements.

の方法
In this class, students must show satisfactory progress during in-class projects. Students must also complete and submit all homework by the deadline assigned and pass all quizzes. Finally, they must receive passing grades on the midterm and final examinations.
成績評価基準
In order to pass this class, students must show significant improvement in their vocabulary(30%). They must also be able to communicative effectively in English with classmates and teachers(20%). In addition, students must show marked improvement in their reading skills, and have the obvious ability to communicate with anyone about simple personal topics in English(50%).
