|Basic English VI (BEVI) builds on the skills students acquired from previous Basic English classes. Class time will be student-centered, and much of the material used will be found on the Internet. Students will learn basic computer skills that can be used for searching, evaluating, summarizing and commenting on Internet information. Homework will include preparation for class time and activities to enhance students' personal learning. |
The main objectives of this course will be to help students identify and correct errors made in topical group presentations and to systematically apply what is learned to further improve presentations through a system of feedback. Online report writing will be a function of this feedback loop.
|BE VI will help students use computers and the Internet to improve their communicative English skills. Basic vocabulary, reading and writing will all be emphasized. Students completing BE VI will have the ability to communicate with others in English about basic topics they read and write about on the Internet.|
All four English skills will be equally dealt with.
|Students will be expected to participate in all activities fully and in English. Due to the nature of the course, a strong desire and interest in communicating personal ideas and opinions on a broad range of subjects in English will be an asset.|
|This course will follow the university's academic scheduling objectives and a more complete course outline will be discussed on the first day of class.|

|It is recommended that students view or read English news on a regular basis as portions of this class will be devoted to presentations note taking and reporting.|
A good English learner's dictionary will be of use along with resources for note-taking.
|In this class, students are required to pass all in-class assignments and homework assignments and participate actively (50%). Students must complete presentations with follow-up reporting, and will have an examination and/or report. They must also pass all examinations (50%).|
|In order to receive credit for this class, students must show marked improvement in their English, computer use, and Internet-using skills. Students must also have a command of basic vocabulary, reading, and writing they learn in class. In addition, students must be able to demonstrate good communicative English skills and have improvement in communication with others in English about simple topics they read and write about on the Internet.|
