|The Faculty of Environmental and Symbiotic Sciences offers Intermediate English II (IE II) to its second-year students. IE II will build on what students learned in IE I. The main focus will be on increasing students' reading and writing skills, but students will be expected to speak and listen to English. Students will learn to improve their reading speed; increase their vocabulary levels; and evaluate, summarize and discuss reading material. Homework will include preparation for class time and activities to enhance students' personal learning.|
Building on the skills gained in Intermediate English I, this class will survey a number of relevant topics in Japan. Students will be given the opportunity to conduct independent research, with instruction in Internet usage provided. In the final classes of the semester, students will have the opportunity to make short presentations based on their findings. Each class will provide time for student discussion.
|Intermediate English II (IE II) builds on second-year students' university English and Internet-using abilities. IE II will help students use computers to search for information on the Internet, then prepare a discussion about that topic. Evaluating vocabulary, reading and writing will all be emphasized. Students completing IE II will have the ability to discuss timely topics of interest in English.|
By the end of this course students should:
1) Be proficient in using Internet search tools to obtain information.
2) Be able to make a short presentation on a topic of interest in English.
3) Answer student/teacher questions related to presentations.
|As new material will be covered weekly, it is important for students to attend all classes. Although the course will use a variety of online search engines and websites to access and organize information, students may only use translation software for words and phrases.|
