概要
Research Writing II is a course which builds on previous Writing courses to continue developing students’ writing skills. The goal of this course is to develop the skills necessary to write a research paper in English and actually produce an essay of about 2000 words.
The topic of the essay should be related to each student's research interests. A process approach to writing will be used: students will produce drafts that will be successively revised and improved.

Students will learn the structure and composition of a formal research paper.

Students will be able to clearly define their thesis statement.

Students will be able to cite sources in proper ways.

Students will be able to engage in a process approach to writing: pre-writing, writing, and post-writing.

Students will be able to write an abstract and a bibliography.
履修上の注意
Students must not copy any sentences from books, the Internet, or articles, without proper citing.

Attendance will be taken during each class.

Most of the work will have to be done outside class.

予習・復習
について
Writing is a recursive process and practice. Each week, students will be required to write something and bring it to class. We will discuss what has been written and try to improve it gradually. Multiple drafts and outlines will be necessary to produce a good essay.

There is no textbook. Students will be given handouts as needed.
