概要
The course is for English majors who are seeking to enhance their understanding of language education, and to improve on their English skills both communicatively and academically. This course can be seen as complementary to English education courses students may have taken at PUK. Students will be introduced to learning theories and teaching methods, with an aim of relating them to their personal learning experiences in the classroom. The course will go from theory to practice. Students will be given plenty of opportunities to put course content into practice through working together in activities.
到達目標
Students will gain an understanding of the relationships between learning theories, teaching methods, and activities in the classroom. They will have a deeper sense of why teachers and learners do what they do in the classroom. Students will also develop their academic English proficiency and professional knowledge of teaching and learning through discussions of course content and participation in activities.
履修上の注意
Since the nature of this course will be highly interactive, students will be expected to actively participate in discussions and activities. They will also be expected to preview and review lessons.
授業計画
Session 1: Warm up activity: What do you know about English Education?; Explanation of course content;
Introduction of learning theories:
Session 2: Behaviorism and student participation activity
Session 3: Humanism and student participation activity
Session 4: Social Constructivism and student participation activity
Session 5: Review of three learning theories
Introduction of teaching methods:
Session 6: Audiolingualism/Structural/Traditional Approach, and student participation activity
Session 7: Communicative Language Teaching and student participation activity
Session 8: Cooperative Learning and student participation activity
Session 9: Jigsaw activity bringing theory and practice together
Session 10: Review of learning theories and teaching methods
Session 11: Preparation for focused mini-lesson teaching team activity (Design and teach an activity that is supported by a learning theory and related teaching method)
Sessions 12, 13, 14: Team teaching focused mini-lesson simulated teaching practice
Session 15: Review and evaluation of course content

について
Students are expected to review each day's activities, as well as prepare for those of the following day.

The instructor will provide handouts and other materials as necessary.
