概要
The faculty of Environmental and Symbiotic Sciences offers Science English I and II to its third year Environmental Resources students. Both Science English I and Science English II meet once a week.
到達目標
The main purpose of the courses is to give students a basic foundation in the English used in science. Key areas of science English examined include environmental science vocabulary, grammar and language found in academic English, and reading/writing techniques. Homework will be given weekly, and the students will have frequent quizzes. The students must conduct two presentations per month based on the class topics. Reading science information in English and writing simple reports will be incorporated into the homework.
履修上の注意
Students are responsible for coming to every class, completing all class activities with other students, doing class work, completing class topic research presentations, and doing other work related to the class.

について
Students will be told about the upcoming topic of next class at the end of each class. The students will research the upcoming topic on the Internet, respond to a question by e-mail, or complete a short writing on the topic. Quizzes and ample homework will ensure that material has been understood. The next class will begin with a review of the previous lesson and include an introduction of the topic of the day.
使用教材
There will be no textbook for this class. The instructor will prepare all the materials and distribute to the students during class.
Plus, a B5 notebook for journal writing and note taking.
参考文献
Since there is no textbook, it is crucial that students bring all the materials to every class. They should prepare a folder in which to keep the class materials.
単位認定
の方法
In this class, students must show satisfactory progress during in-class projects(30%). Students must also complete and submit all homework by the deadline assigned, pass all quizzes, and complete all presentations(20%). Finally, they must receive passing grades on the midterm and final examinations(50%).
成績評価基準
In order to pass this class, students must show significant improvement in their environmental science vocabulary and presentation skills. They must also be able to respond with feedback effectively in English with classmates and teachers. In addition, students must show marked improvement in their writing and presentation skills, and have the obvious ability to communicate with peers about the class topics in English.
