Kumamoto Prefectural Women's College founded (in the grounds of Kumamoto Castle) .

Kumamoto Women's University opens.
Faculty of Liberal Arts / Department of Literature, Department of Domestic Sciences .

University moved to Oetoroku, Kumamoto City.
(the current site of the Prefectural Theater) .

Faculty and department names changed:
Faculty of Letters and Sciences / Department of Literature (English Literature, Japanese Literature),Department of Home Economics .

New departments opened:
Department of Literature divided into Department of English Literature and Department of Japanese Literature.

New department opened:
Department of Home Economics divided into Department of Home Economics and Department of Food Sciences .

Faculty reorganized into Faculty of Letters and Faculty of Human Life Sciences:
Faculty of Letters opened with Department of English Literature, Department of Japanese Literature.
Faculty of Human Life Sciences opened with Department of Food Sciences and Nutrition, Department of Living Environment Science, and Department of Living Management.

Foreign Language Education Center opened.

Graduate School opened with two Sections:
Graduate School of Language and Literature / Division of Japanese Language and Literature (Master's Degree Program) and Division of English Language and Literature (Master's Degree Program) .
